Bronson and Inception actor, Tom Hardy, will play Al Capone in Cicero, an origins story on the Chicago crime boss’s rise to power, according to New York magazine’s Vulture blog.

Harry Potter director David Yates is set to direct the film for Warner Bros, which is rumoured to be the first of a franchise. If so, it will likely cover Capone’s childhood in New York, his teenage years as a member of the infamous Five Points Gang and his move to the southside Chicago suburb of Cicero, where he made millions running illegal speakeasies during Prohibition.

Capone’s life story has already inspired a number of Hollywood adaptations. Rod Steiger took a pop at the role in Richard Wilson’s 1959 biopic, Robert De Niro gathered his guns for 1987’s The Untouchables, Howard Hughes’s Scarface (1932) was loosely based on Capone’s life and was later adapted by Brian De Palma for his 1983 re-make, starring Al Pacino.

Since the lead role in “Snow White & The Huntsman” went to Johnny Depp, there are new rumors about a possible future project for Tom.

Tom Hardy has been offered the role of Henry Sturges in the highly-anticipated flick Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, according to Bloody Disgusting.

The pic is the fictionalized story of Abraham Lincoln, whose mother dies due a debt owed by his father to a vampire, which causes him to take action to eliminate all the vampires.

The film is based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith, which is written from the documents “given” to the author by the vampire Henry Sturges, which would be Tom’s role in the movie.

Bloody Disgusting learned today that Tom Hardy has been offered the role of “Henry Sturgess” in Timur Bekmambetov’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Hardy recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s Inception and also captured the vicious role of Nicolas Winding Refn’s remarkable Bronson. He was one of Variety’s Top Ten Actors to watch in 2009. In Seth Grahame-Smith’s historical horror spin, when Abraham Lincoln was nine years old, his mother died from an ailment called the “milk sickness.” Only later did he learn that his mother’s deadly affliction was actually the work of a local vampire, seeking to collect a debt owed by Lincoln’s father. When Abe learned the truth, he vowed revenge and kept one passion hidden throughout his life: the brutal elimination of all vampires. Twentieth Century Fox is aiming at a June 22, 2012 release for the Tim Burton produced horror adventure.
